As we roll in to August we've got another Farmer's Market booth coming up, and the Avenues Street Fair is just around the corner! It's been a busy summer, full of fun meet & greets and educational opportunities, but there have also been some losses within our group - Rebecca Doersam lost her sweet broodmama Daria (System DR Daria) to osteosarcoma on July 15th and just two short weeks later our longtime foster Dustin (Dustin the Way) lost his long battle with a mysterious neurological problem and was ushered to the Rainbow Bridge. Meet & Greets just won't be the same without his always-enthusiastic presence.

Adoption applications have started coming in again, after a bit of a dry spell, and depending on how things go perhaps some of our current adoptable dogs might be finding their forever home! Our available dogs are Star, a recently returned 7 year old brindle girlie who loves people (but not kitties), another recent return with 6 year old Riley, a very big, sweet red brindle guy, and Hawley, the youngest of our available dogs at just 2 years old.

Busy summer for GPA-SL!

GPA-Salt Lake will be hosting a booth at the Downtown Farmer's Market this Saturday, June 26th from 8am to 1pm. It is a fun, fast-paced Meet & Greet and as always, adopters and hounds alike are welcome at the booth, and we will have treats and water for everyone. If you are available to offer help during setup or teardown, we can always use an extra set of hands. This will be the last booth at the Market for GPA until mid-August, so don't miss your chance to visit and browse the vendors before the real summer heat arrives!

As we head in to the month of July, the GPA Meet & Greet calendar offers more fun opportunities for you and your hounds to volunteer. Our monthly Trolley Square meet will be held on Saturday the 3rd between 1-4pm, and we will be at our usual location next to the glass elevator. We will also be hosting a booth at the Park Silly Farmer's Market in Park City on Sunday the 18th from 9am-6pm. This is a great chance to escape the valley for some gorgeous scenery, amazing vendors and great food while spreading the word about our awesome dogs.

Our regularly scheduled Sunday walks are another great way to get out and enjoy the company of our wonderful adopters and hounds, and we will continue to meet at 9:30 and make our way around the park, albeit using a more wandering route due to the continued cleanup efforts around the pond. We always have water and treats for the hounds at the 'finish line' and as an added bonus Faith has started offering a 'mani/pedi' Dremel service for your dogs for a small donation towards the GPA-SL foster hounds' care. Dremeling is a great way to keep your greyhound's nails nice and short, without the pain of 'quicking' or the rough edges you get with nail clippers, and most hounds accept it readily when treats and pets are involved. If you have never tried it, this is a great way to see how it's done while supporting our fabulous fosters!

Gearing up for the summer...

Summer is right around the corner, and with it comes GPA-Salt Lake's busy Meet&Greet season! Look for us at the Pioneer Park Farmer's Market, Park Silly Farmer's Market and Avenues Street Fair as well as our regular Trolley Square meets and Sunday walks at Liberty Park. It's going to be an awesome summer!

In other exciting news, GPA-SL will be welcoming three new greyhounds to Utah during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 1st. These dogs will be making a long journey from http://www.halfwayhomegreyhounds.com/ in Oklahoma, and our loyal volunteers will be waiting with open arms and clean collars when the hauler arrives! Haul days are always memorable, full of excitement and anticipation as we welcome in our newest retirees and start them on their journey to their forever homes with a luxurious 'spa day' where they get massages, baths, manicures and their first photo shoots. By the end of the day they will be settled in to their foster homes, where they will begin learning about all the perks of retiree life - treats, beds, stuffies, and all the skritches and pats their hearts desire!

If you are interested in volunteering at any of our events, or would like more information on fostering or adopting one of our awesome retirees, please visit our website for contact information.

It's all about the greyhounds...

GPA Salt Lake is proud to be a sub-chapter of Greyhound Pets of America. Our mission is to find loving, responsible homes for retired racing greyhounds and to educate the public about their fantastic qualities and availability as pets. We are an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(C)(3) organization with foster homes and volunteers located throughout the Salt Lake valley.

Stay tuned for spotlights on adoptable dogs, event announcements, fun photos and more!
